Elocution and Extempore Competition

Elocution is a public-speaking event where the participants recite a piece from memory. However, a topic is given to them in advance. Books describe it as the art of speaking in such a manner that the voice may be heard, the words understood and the sentiments and feelings appreciated by those to whom they are addressed.

Extempore speech is another public speaking event where the participants are asked to speak on an unseen topic provided to them on the spot. They may be allotted some time for preparation after the topics are declared.

Such an Elocution and Extempore speech competition was organised by Springfield School on the 27th October, 2017. The students of Stds. VI to XII participated in the competition. The participants spoke on many topics such as success, dreams and the famous speeches of Malala Yousafzai, APJ Abdul Kalam etc. The students spoke with such attitude, style and tone that each one of them seemed to be the best.
